The Wilton Police Department has a group of young men and women who participate in the Wilton Police Explorer Post. Explorers are a part of the Learning for Life career education program. Explorers are open to all young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20.

Wilton Police Explorers meet every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. During this time explorers are trained in various types of police duties including accident investigation, crime scene investigation, DWI, firearms training, and the communication center. Each Fall there is a "First Nighter" where interested young men and women can attend an informational meeting about Exploring.

Explorers can assist police officers in traffic details and working in the Communications Center. They also sponsor numerous safety programs for children such as the Kidcare ID events.

Explorers attend a National Law Enforcement Explorers Conference once every two years. While at the conference, Explorers attend numerous interesting seminars, Career Days and compete against other Explorer Posts from across the country. Wilton Explorers attended the National Law Enforcement Explorers Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in July of 2004 and will attend another in July 2006.
